Support
SSTV+ is an iOS app for receiving and sending Slow-Scan Television (SSTV) images. It runs entirely on your device and needs no internet connection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the app need microphone access?
SSTV images are transmitted as audio. The app needs the microphone to hear the signal coming from a speaker or radio so it can demodulate it into an image. Audio is not saved by default; see the Privacy Policy for details.
I can’t receive a signal — what should I check?
Check these in order:
- Make sure you have granted SSTV+ microphone access in the iOS Settings app.
- Move the signal source (a radio, or another device’s speaker) closer to your phone’s microphone.
- Watch the status message on the receive screen:
- “Waiting for VIS header” — the app has not yet detected a valid signal. Check the volume and the positioning.
- “Signal is weak. Increase the transmit volume.” — turn the transmitting device’s volume up.
- “Signal is too strong. Decrease the transmit volume.” — turn it down.
- Make sure the mode used on the transmitting side is one of the modes supported below.
- Try to receive in a quiet environment — background noise interferes with demodulation.
Which SSTV modes are supported?
SSTV+ supports the following 9 modes for both receiving and sending:
| Mode | Image Size | Approx. Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Robot 36 | 320×240 | 36 s |
| Robot 72 | 320×240 | 72 s |
| Martin M1 | 320×256 | 114 s |
| Martin M2 | 320×256 | 58 s |
| Scottie S1 | 320×256 | 110 s |
| Scottie S2 | 320×256 | 71 s |
| PD 90 | 320×256 | 90 s |
| PD 120 | 640×496 | 126 s |
| PD 180 | 640×496 | 187 s |
Where are received images stored?
They are stored in the app’s library. On a record’s detail screen, tap “Save to Photos” to write the image to your system photo library — this is the only way an image leaves the app, since the app has no separate image-sharing feature. If that record has raw audio retained (meaning “Keep original received audio” was turned on before the signal was received, in the app’s own “Receive Settings” sheet — opened from the button at the top right of the receive screen, not in the iOS Settings app), the detail screen also shows an “Export Original Received Audio” option, which shares that raw audio file — not the image.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the entry from the record list — its image and audio are removed together with it. Uninstalling the app clears all local data. See “Retention and Deletion” in the Privacy Policy for details.
