Privacy Policy
In one sentence: SSTV+ runs entirely on your own device. It has no server, it does not go online, and it integrates no third-party services. We do not collect anything, we do not upload anything, and we have no way to access your data — all of it stays on your own device.
This is not a promise; it is how the app is built — there is not a single network request anywhere in the SSTV+ code.
1. What We Do Not Collect
SSTV+ contains none of the following:
- Accounts — There is nothing to register for and nothing to sign in to; the app does not know who you are.
- Network transmission — The app makes no network requests. It never sends your images, audio or records anywhere; data leaves the app only when you save an image or share audio yourself (see “4. When Data Leaves the App” below).
- Analytics and crash reporting — No analytics or monitoring service is integrated.
- Advertising and tracking identifiers — The app uses no advertising identifier and does no cross-app tracking.
- Location services — The app has never requested the system location permission and does not use location features.
- iCloud sync — The app does not enable iCloud or CloudKit sync.
2. What the App Processes on Your Device
This section lists the data the app processes on your device and says, item by item, which of it is stored inside the app’s sandbox and which is not saved at all by default. For when data leaves the app, see “4. When Data Leaves the App” below.
Microphone Audio
While receiving an SSTV signal, the app reads the microphone input in real time and demodulates it into an image. Audio is not saved by default. The raw audio is stored on your device together with the received record only if you turn on “Keep original received audio” in the app’s own “Receive Settings” sheet, opened from the button at the top right of the receive screen — a switch that is off by default.
Images
When sending, the app uses the system photo picker to let you choose an image. The picker runs in a system process, so the app needs no photo library read permission and cannot browse your library — it receives only the single image you explicitly select.
When saving, the app writes an image to your photo library only if you tap save yourself.
Local Library
The app stores your received records and your sent records on your device. These are two different kinds of record and they do not hold the same fields.
A received record holds image data, the time it was received, the SSTV mode, a signal quality figure and — only if you have turned on “Keep original received audio” — the raw audio. It also holds the following fields that you fill in yourself:
- Call Sign — an amateur radio callsign is normally a matter of public record and identifies a real person, so it is personally identifiable information. Whether to fill it in is entirely up to you; once entered, it is stored only on your device and is never uploaded.
- Frequency, Location and Notes — all free-text fields. Please note in particular: “Location” is a free-text field you type in yourself and is unrelated to system location services. The app requests no location permission and does not read location metadata from images.
A sent record holds only image data, the time it was sent, the SSTV mode, one piece of audio data and an internal identifier. It carries no signal quality figure, and it offers no call sign, frequency, location or notes field to fill in — those fields belong to received records alone.
The audio in a sent record is a WAV file the app synthesises itself. It is saved with the record unconditionally, with no switch to turn it off — this is not the same as received microphone audio being “not saved by default”; see “Microphone Audio” above.
Preferences
The app uses the system’s UserDefaults to store interface preferences (whether to keep raw audio, for example). These settings exist only on your device.
Temporary Files
When you open a record’s detail screen (if that record has stored audio), or when preparing a transmission, the app writes a WAV file into the system temporary directory so that you can export it through the share sheet. That directory is managed by iOS and the system may clear it automatically when it needs to; uninstalling the app deletes it as well.
3. Permissions

The photo library permission is requested at the add-only level, which means the app can only write to your library — it cannot read or browse the photos you already have.
Both permissions can be revoked at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security. Revoking the microphone permission makes receiving unavailable, and revoking the photo library permission makes saving images impossible; the rest of the app is unaffected.
4. When Data Leaves the App
Only when you set it in motion yourself, in two specific cases:
- You tap save, and the image is written to your own photo library.
- You tap share, and the system share sheet sends audio to the destination app you pick. The share sheet only ever sends audio; images cannot be shared — the only way an image leaves the app is case 1 above.
SSTV+ itself sends nothing over a network in either case: writing to the photo library and handing a file to another app both happen on this device. What the data leaves is the SSTV+ app — where it goes after that, including any syncing or sending the destination performs, is entirely your decision. We play no part in it and know nothing about it.
5. Retention and Deletion
- Data in the library is stored inside the app’s sandbox, and how long it is kept is entirely under your control (share copies in the temporary directory are the exception; see the next point).
- Deleting a record in the app deletes its image and audio along with it. But if that record had audio stored with it and you have ever opened its detail screen, a WAV copy written for sharing is left in the system temporary directory — deleting the record does not remove it. Unless the system clears the temporary directory on its own, it stays there until you uninstall the app (see “Temporary Files” above).
- Uninstalling SSTV+ deletes all data in the app’s sandbox, including every record, your preferences and any temporary files.
We have no server, so there is no such thing as “contacting us to have your data deleted” — we hold none of your data.
6. iCloud Backup and Apple’s Role
Two things happen outside SSTV+ that you should know about:
iCloud backup. If you have turned on iCloud Backup in iOS, the system may include the data in your SSTV+ sandbox in that backup, which is saved to your own iCloud storage. This is iOS system behaviour, governed by Apple’s privacy policy, not an upload performed by SSTV+. You can manage it under Settings → your name → iCloud.
Data provided by Apple. Apple may give us anonymous aggregate App Store statistics (download counts and regional distribution, for example), and anonymous crash logs when you choose to share them with developers. This data is processed by Apple, contains nothing that identifies you personally, and gives us no way to trace it to an individual user.
7. Children’s Privacy
SSTV+ collects no user data, and therefore collects no personal information from children either. The app is made for amateur radio operators; it is neither designed for nor marketed to children under 13.
8. Third-Party Services
None. SSTV+ integrates no third-party SDKs, analytics tools, advertising networks or cloud services.
9. Changes to This Policy
If future changes to SSTV+ affect how data is handled, we will update this policy and revise the effective date at the top of the page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
